Image Metadata Remover

Strip EXIF data and GPS location before you share a photo.

Your images never leave your device.

Accepts JPG, PNG and WebP, up to 50 MB and about 40 megapixels per image. Animated images are read as a single frame.

About this tool

Photos taken on phones and cameras often carry hidden information: the device model, the date and time, editing software, and sometimes the exact GPS coordinates where the picture was taken. When you share the original file, that information can travel with it.

This tool shows you what metadata was found, then redraws the image on a browser canvas and saves a fresh copy that contains only the pixels. The cleaned file is checked again so you can confirm that no EXIF data remains.

How to use it

  1. Add a photo.
  2. Review the metadata that was found, including any location data.
  3. Download the clean copy.

Frequently asked questions

How is the metadata removed?

The image is drawn onto an HTML canvas and exported as a new file. Canvas exports contain only pixel data, so EXIF, GPS and other embedded metadata are not included.

Does this reduce image quality?

PNG output is lossless. JPG and WebP are re-encoded, so you can choose a high quality setting (the default is 92) to keep the result visually identical.

Will the photo still be the right way up?

Yes. Your browser applies the orientation stored in the EXIF data before the image is redrawn, so the clean copy looks the same as the original even though the orientation tag is gone.

Do social networks remove metadata anyway?

Many large platforms strip some metadata on upload, but behaviour varies, and files sent by email, messaging apps or cloud links are often shared untouched. Removing it yourself means you do not have to rely on anyone else.
