About this tool
Different formats suit different jobs. JPG is the most widely supported format for photos, PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency for graphics and screenshots, and WebP usually produces smaller files than both while still supporting transparency.
Choose your target format, set the quality where it applies, and download the result. When converting an image with transparency to JPG — which cannot store transparency — you can choose the background colour that fills the transparent areas.
How to use it
- Add a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Choose the format you want to convert to.
- Set the quality (for JPG and WebP) and a background colour if needed.
- Download the converted file.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
Use WebP for websites when you want the smallest files, JPG when you need maximum compatibility for photos, and PNG for graphics, screenshots or images that must stay pixel-perfect.
Why is there no quality setting for PNG?
PNG is a lossless format, so it has no quality setting in the usual sense. If you want a smaller PNG, use the Image Compressor, which can reduce the colour palette.
What happens to transparent areas when converting to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with a solid colour. White is the default, and you can pick any colour before converting.
My browser says it cannot create WebP files. Why?
Encoding WebP relies on your browser. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera support it. If yours does not, try one of those browsers or convert to JPG or PNG instead.
